Euphorbia tirucalli
Also known as the Pencil Tree, the Euphorbia tirucalli is a tree from the
Euphorbiaceae family
featuring green, succulent stems and tiny oval leaves.
Care Tips
Euphorbia tirucalli is native to semi-arid regions of Africa. At the slightest injury, this plant will secrete a toxic latex known to cause temporary blindness and severe irritation. With proper care and attention this plant can be very easy to grow, but keep it away from your pets! A healthy Euphorbia tirucalli will need:
- bright indirect or full sun. It is not suitable for low-light conditions.
- as with most succulents, very well draining soil.
- longer time between waterings, depending on light conditions and time of year. For example, I water mine only once a month in winter. Overwatering will lead to root-rot and the dropping of stems.
